Spring 2025 kind of broke my streak of being smart about watching
seasonals. But it was the most wonderful season of them all... for wrong
reasons.
I spent this season in Denmark, with someone I love very dearly. And while
finishing the shows was too difficult, I had the best time. July 2025 was
the one to be remembered.
But enough personal ranting.
Let's speedrun through the season!

What ended up getting dropped
Lazarus hardly made it through 3 episodes, but then it hit me. This shows
is just a showcase of a specific type of animation and that is that.
There is nothing more to it, and the story suffers from... not being
done properly, turning out boring.
Witch Watch
is one of those shows that tries too hard to be funny. It works
great!...for those who don't expect too much from comedy with cute
girl protagonist.
But to me, it lacks fundamental points and tweaks of what makes a
show actually funny. Not to mention how weak it's parody game is.
The references don't work.
One episode was enough.
Haite Kudasai, Takamine-san, now listen. Before you judge me, let me just say that I was
trying to see if it was actually what the synopsis promised. And
yep. This girl just takes off her panties and shifts time. Jesus.
Not even one full episode.

Koupen-chan
This is pretty straightforward. Koupen-chan is a neverending set of
short stories from the life of a cute baby penguin (much like
Odekake Kozame was). There is not much of a story, but it's very
healing and I can imagine Japanese kids learning a lot from
this.

cocoon: Aru Natsu no Shoujo-tachi Yori
I read cocoon as manga, way before the adaptation
was a thing. I loved it, I was a huge fan of how they decided to
depict certain elements of war. It was literally a "innocent
girl's view of horrors" while still staying firm on the ground,
having to address death and awful experiences they had.
Now anime was a bit different in terms of scenes, how they chose
to show certain moments and the ending almost seemed completely
changed. (It's been a while since I've seen it, so I am not
certain.) What I know is, I wasn't a fan, and the manga stays in
my heart.
I did enjoy the flowers instead of blood, and the drive the girls
had to survive. Visually, it was incredibly good.
The comments, fast and "between-words" to what happened to their friends was absolutely incredible.
The comments, fast and "between-words" to what happened to their friends was absolutely incredible.
If I was a silkworm, and I knew the world was like this... I'd never leave my cocoon
As a standalone movie, cocoon is amazing. As an adaptation, it is
lacking. Read the manga, please.

Zatsu Tabi: That's Journey
This can only be summed up as "Japan: the ad". It's nice to see a
lot of Japan, even if through simple CGDCT SOL anime. But where's
the story? Where is the meaning? What more can they offer?
The answer is, nothing.

Kuroshitsuji: Midori no Majo-hen
Now we're talking!
Kuroshitsuji delivered once again, and this time, knowing what
type of animation ClowerWorks brings to the table, I managed to
enjoy the heck out of this.
I was saving this until the last moment, and ended up watching
it in August, but it was so worth the wait.
Emerald witch arc is a story of young girl who was tricked into
believing she was made for more. Trciked by everyone around her,
even the one who was supposed to stand the closest to her.
Curses, werewolfs, magic... war, betrayal, death.
Backstories.
This arc has it all and it serves it in a way, that you cannot
wait to see the next episode, swallowing the series whole in one
sitting.
But to be fair, the pacing is a bit flawed and I thought the
way they decided where to end episodes was a bit off. But if
that's the only problem they have - they have no problem.

Hibi wa Sugiredo Meshi Umashi
Do you remember when I complained about Koufuku Graffiti? Well, Hibi wa... gets the job done properly!
Cute girls? Check! ✅
Good food? Check! ✅
Absolutely nothing happened? Check! ✅
What more can you possibly want from a great show like this?
😂But really the story is not there, because it's just a "feel
good" show. The great cast is varied enough to find your favorites
in the bunch and have fun with them.
There is not much I can say, it's just a good watch.

Kakushite! Makina-san!!
Makina-san was a joke watch. My boyfriend and I just wanted
to laugh a bit, I kinda pressed for this to be a part of our
watchlist.
After all, watching a short show about a sex-android who is
clueless and isn't even functioning properly, has to be
fun.
And let's face it - there was no way this could be good. The
story was lacking, the characters were stupid, the whole idea of
this being about sex while not being sexual was stupid and the
fact that there was 31 angles of boobs in one episode (we
counted!) was stupid.
However, and I have to praise this, the
opening is a huge banger and it will stay in my mind forever.

mono
Mono is basically Zatsu Tabi and Hibi wa Sugiredo Meshi Umashi meshed together. The story focuses on the everyday life of few
main characters. One of them is into pictures/cameras, the
others have their own lives... but all of them are friends, just
enjoying themselves.
Thanks to pictures, they take us on few drives around the area
where the main characters live for various reasons.
I liked this show, it wasn't anything spectacular, but in the
mess of Spring 2025, it was a really good watch.
On the other hand, it was very surprising how little the
pictures and camera mattered for the story, that seems to be
build around it.

Aru Majo ga Shinu Made
My worries turned out to be justified. The sob story that was
supposed to shake our views of the world and human emotions...
went nowhere. It was boring, bland, and didn't solve anything,
least of all the problems or plot points that the story
established for itself.
Snooze fest is what it turned into and I am sorry I gave it a
chance. Nowadays, looking good and having good animation doesn't
mean anything overall quality, I guess.
It's a pity, for something that could be so good... I just
hoped it would be more.

Kidou Senshi Gundam GQuuuuuuX
Kidou Senshi looks good, but I do not remember anything from
it. Which tells you exactly how the story building went and how
little mattered.
This show looks good - the art style is unique, animation is
great, CGI horrible as always in mecha shows... But that is all
I have to say about it.
The shocker comes with the rating, that I cannot even explain
anymore.

Sentai Daishikkaku 2nd Season
As a second season, it dropped a bit in quality
(animation-wise) and it messed up the storylines, it would seem.
Apparently, they didn't do justice to manga as an adaptation
even though watching it as a anime-watcher-solely did make sense
in the first half.
I am a sucker for time loops, so I enjoyed that very much. But
once that arc ended, Sentai Daishikkaku became insanely
confusing and the anime didn't do a very good job with pacing,
to make us understand what is happening and what is
reality.
I am a huge fan of the story and I want to follow it through.
Something convinced me to pick up the manga (if I get the time
& space for it) but for now, this is all I have. As confused
as I am, the finale was grand and I am praying for another
season.
Good watch!

WIND BREAKER Season 2
This season of WIND BREAKER brought basically everything that
the first season has. There were new, scary characters, lots
of fighting, and in the end a wonderful twist that kept you on
the edge of the seat and was enough to convince you to watch
more.
Funnily enough, even though I don't think this season brought
back anything new or exciting, or even worth remembering
(despite binging many episodes at once) I still enjoyed what
they served. Thus, the score from the first season goes to
this one as well, standing at a great 7/10.
Animation and art stayed just as great, the quality didn't
drop one bit. Sakura stayed just as lovable and all the
characters that were introduced left a decent print.
Just to name few, Tsubakino (trans representation go),
Shizuka (god she could be annoying) Endou & Takiishi (who
did not have much screen time but left a beautiful
inpact).
The pacing I found weird, because really nothing other than
Tsubakino and Shizuka's backstories were plot/story-heavy. The
music I enjoyed and I found so incredibly funny when all of
them sat down to explain the story behind Furin's
unification... and instead of the four kings and the boss man,
our own Nirei started talking about it. xDDD
Leave it to someone with a notebook, that wasn't there when
it happened to talk to audience. Love it.
Overall, a good show.
