Baby Fever is a Danish television series that premiered in 2022. It stars Josephine Park as Nana, a fertility doctor who drunkenly inseminates herself with her ex-boyfriend's sperm.

Skruk is the first Danish TV series I had the pleasure of seeing. It's a romantic drama, following the drunken decision of a fertility doctor to inseminate herself with her ex-boyfriend's sperm. That along with her awful "method" of lying to her patients (and people around) starts a carousel of bad decision and hilariously bad situations that often end in the viewer's second hand embarrassment.

I watched Skruk with mom, basically in one sitting. At first, it was
surreal, listening to that god-awful language where we couldn't understand
anything... but slowly we came to understand that its's just English and
German with fancy accent and awful pronounciation.
I started noticing a few words and even melody - so when the Swedish dude
came on the screen, I could smell something fishy about that
language.
Overall, it was an experience. I enjoyed picking up on words and even ways
Danish people react something, that I noticed based on my previous
experiences with people in Denmark.
And I annoyed my mom a lot by screaming "I was there!" at every scene shot in Copenhagen.

But now about the show itself:

Nana
Like I said, Skruk follows a fertility doctor Nana, whose method of being
successful at her job is lying to her patients about her life. If the
patient is worried about twins - she had them and it was wonderful. If the
patient wasn't sure - she's been there. If her patient's husband did that
and this, you can be sure that Nana went through the same!
Her character hits us like a bus and we stand between two lines: she's a horrible person and she's freaking hilarious, I love her. I, for one, enjoyed her a lot. And it was stupid of people to assume she would change in the second season.

Now, Nana had character growth. But she was real, we do learn from
mistakes but we don't change fast, or a lot. We change when we need to, we
change based on our experiences and we change when we learn something
valuable. But all in all, we people stay the same. Our character is almost
set in stone and that's just who we are.
And that happened to Nana. She was just a lonely woman who thought she
could have the life she dreamed of,
because why couldn't she have it?
And honestly, can you blame her?
She had a good boyfriend whom she loved and she made a mistake that cost
her that relationship. But she knew why she hesitated and she was sure
they were made for each other. Her naivety is so real-life and
her chase after "the one I love, not the one that could be right for me"
is very raw. Obviously, that makes her made awful decisions and stuff that
she knows it's wrong... But Nana is a person. Real life person like all of
us. And she makes mistakes that she corrects (even if it's usually almost
too late for that).
Other characters
The show does a wonderful way of showing Søren as the good guy, while also aiming to show us
how... off he is. So we understand both sides - the
logical view, and Nana's view.
And Mathias... oh god. This dude. Come on, Nana. How can you be so blind?
Both love interests start out interesting and exciting, and I didn't
know who to cheer for. It was at the very end, when you realise that
there should be no cheering.
Nothing is idealized.
Not even Simone, the best friend of Nana. While her character is the
"good-est" of them all, Simone is almost showing the raw side of what
it's like to be a human. And she's a wonderful reminder of why we need
friends, good friends.
Then there is Nana's mother (Lise Lacour), who loves her career and
looks more than her own grandkid. Helle, the boss who is too human for
all the stress that comes with leading. Hampus who has the worst
"competing for boss' love" dynamic with Nana, that's very hard to
watch... Lucia (Mathias' girlfriend) whom I didn't understand for
a second and Niels-Anders who is listed last because of how much
I loved his character and the actor.
Overall, the cast is made up by lovely bunch of weirdos, who create the
perfect universe for Nana's life.
Oh and did I mention Nana's lost dad? wink wink
The characters are responsible for this series, the weight of it stands
on their shoulders. If you like them, you'll love this mess. If you
won't enjoy them, then the series probably will not be for you.
As the story is bizarre, you cannot go into this show with expectation
of some real-life sob story of a woman who made mistakes.
It's a tragi-comedy of live itself, told by the eyes of a woman who
isn't afraid to stare right in the camera, as if saying to us "this is
my life, isn't it something?".
And I ended up loving it.
I wish there was more, but I am satisfied with what I was given and
with the ending that they gave us. Because in a way,
it was a happy ending.

There is so much to be said about Baby Fever. But I'll leave it to
each of us, to create their own opinion. Because it's worth
it.
