Summer 2024 - Dropped shows

I was prepared for this. Some shows just... didn't show the quality I expected, or bored me to death. Obviously, I do owe myself some commentary, and since I don't write reviews for dropped shows, this is a place for me to rant and explain what was the show like and what was the breaking point from me.

In Summer 2024 I watched 14 shows, 3 of which I dropped.
We are talking about these shows:

But let's get deeper into it.

Tokidoki Bosotto Russiago de Dereru Tonari no Alya-san
(or Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian)

This drop might come as a shock to many. The "many" in questions must be some generic anime lovers, because what the hell is so good about this show, really?

Alya... is sort of a "Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai" copy-cat.

The male MC is a perverted otaku that has good soul and is totally devoted to his beautiful romantic interest - and the romantic interest is this absolute goddess, who has one weird thing about her.
But of course, in their way, there are other beautiful girls that stand in way of their romance by having a close relationship to the male mc.

But bunny girl senpai was at least interesting by its story. The plot of "puberty syndrome" is interesting in nature, but I do admit I was not that big of a fan of that show either. This one is just "she loves me, but is a tsundere, so she speaks Russian, but doesn't know that I know Russian too".

I was sold on the idea, I really was! But I did not expect the story to be this flat, and the show to be so awfully boring. I don't know why I kept watching, when I had enough after 3 episodes...

But I do understand why it is so popular - the story, the beautiful "waifus", really beautiful animation and even fanservice for those who are into feet and thighs. It's so easy to read people and what show will be popular... 😆

Na-Nare Hana-Nare
(or Narenare -Cheer for you!-)

As a fan of Anima Yell! I had high hopes for this show. Since Anima Yell doesn't have a second season, this was a second chance to watch a cheerleading show.

However, Na-Nare let me down so much, I was frustrated. One thing was the art style that was eating my eyes out, with the badly bright colors and highlights, and the most boring story I have encountered in a while.
When you think CGDCT Slice of Life anime, you don't think about plot at all - but there has to be something about it.
Half the time, this anime was not even about cheerleading... And when they worked that in the story, they didn't go for the obvious answer - sports - but started to think of weird stuff to cheer for. Like festivals, or making videos, or supporting a business that was going out of business...

Extremely weak in all aspects of it's existence, I suffered through it, forgetting that I have a free will and can not finish it. So that is what I did, dropping it at 10 episodes and giving up.

The most memorable moment was when the girl in wheelchair stood up... and that (in it's predictability) is awfully little to keep me interested.
This show failed me.

Tasuuketsu
(or Tasuketsu -Fate of the Majority-)

But not as much as Tasuuketsu did.

I love death games, I love survival, psychological shows and all kinds of freaky and silly things. I like having to think, I like discovering the rules of new worlds and all sorts of little details hiding in the background.
I had high hopes for this one - because from the synopsis it was all I ever wanted and promised a lot more.

The male MC starts out as a dumb f*ck, who turns intelligent halfway, and his 180 degree turn makes him into the mastermind of the whole plan of taking down the emperor. Nothing that wasn't seen or used before.
The good old generic "mc had always been the chosen one". He can't gain a privilege because he has the one that is the key to beating the emperor. Hand me a bucket. I am going to throw up.

Their excuses for what works how were so stupid, I wanted to drop this show after 3 episodes. You establish someone's death, but use it only as an element of surprise and then bring them back so they can screw with how the story will move from that point.
And while we're on the topic of ridiculousness... the evil guy pulled out a Pokémon card to defeat his "enemies".  And in the next episode, a new character looked like he came straight out of Digimon. I wheezed.

Once Tasuuketsu introduced a supernatural element, it took away the last bits of joy for me. I think death games work the best when they make you uncomfortable in how real the situation feels. Of course, it is surreal in getting tasks that will somehow get you killed - but seeing blue post boxes disappear in the thin air was not what I expected to happen. And don't get me started on ethereal enemies...

Also. Why are these kids okay with killing other people??

Pulling a BNHA did not help. Suddenly, thanks to "Priviledges" or "Rights" their bodies can change and transform, giving them supernatural or overpowered abilities, that fuel weird fights between the characters. I did not expect that and it didn't work.
And I give up.

Thankfully, the other shows are at least decent enough that I can finish them. So slowly, but steadily, I am working on the other posts and getting ready for another season. Even though I am veeeeery late.
