Anime Wrap-Up #9

Anime Wrap-Up is a section of this blog, directed to anime I've consumed in any way during the previous month. I will address fun details, pinpoint some important notes, and give my overall feeling about those shows!
Let's get to it!

This time, we're dealing with these shows:

Enen no Shouboutai (Fire Force)

Right out of bat, I'll make everyone mad. Fire Force got a score of 4/10 which translates to "I didn't get the appeal of this one". I don't think it's bad, I did... like it, I guess. But it was't for me, I was not loving it and I am not watching the sequel.
From the very start, I knew why people like it - because it was generic. You might think 'you're so dumb for calling this generic!!' but think outside the box. It checks all the box for being popular, just like many other animes. I won't compare it to anything, because I don't care about the hateful comments from more people. 😂
I do get why people liked it, I am not one of them. I don't regret watching it, but I would not watch it in a second life.

THE DOG OF FLANDERS

Fucking hated this fucking movie.
I hate movies with animals because something awful always happens to them. I hate movies with old people because they always die or injure themselves.
BOTH happened in this movie and fuck spoilers in this case. You know it would happen, everyone knows it would happen! It always happens!
Why the fuck did I even watch this?!
I cried so fucking hard. (Raw emotions, people, this swearing is all just raw emotions.) Never ever watching anything like this again. Anne from Green Gables? Haha, no. Heide, the girls from Alps? No way. NO MORE of this!
People are cruel, life is unfair and we will all die or stay alone ...or die alone. Goodbye.
10/10

Usagi Drop (Bunny Drop)

This was so adorable! Probably not as adorable as the others made it seem, but I still liked it.
Rin was very adorable and I wish her only happiness, seriously. Daikichi really seemed like a good man. I mean, if I had a boyfriend and he took a child like that, I would definitely think more highly of him.
Mostly when others in the family didn't even think about taking Rin in. Another one who I had a problem with was her mother - but I guess that is a complicated topic, so I won't talk about it too much.
The anime itself was pretty great, just a simple slice-of-life, found family... all these soft and warm themes. It was okay, really. Usagi Drop gave that feeling that whatever happens in the future will work out just fine. 7/10

Sword Art Online II

I watched the first season at the beginning of my anime journey. (More or less.) I loved it - and I love the video game aspect to this day (that's why I enjoyed BOFURI). Even though I was confused by the second part, I just shrugged it off and defended SAO. The first season does not deserve the hate it got!
With high hopes and being actually excited, I dove to the second season, expecting to have fun again.
Instead of fun perks, getting skills and finding new friends... I got thrown into a huge mess that I hated from the first episode.
Kirito was sent to the game to kill a bad guy without his friends, so the only Asuna/Yui/Kirito moments were limited to silly scenes.
Our new main girl character Shino Asada looks extremely cute but is troubled by a deep past. Normally, I would love her so so much, but I feel like she was slept on by the author himself.
And when her stalked came out of nowhere, I lost all hope for this show. I hated him, I hated the need to create him and I hated where it took the story.
(This all happened in the first half of the series!)
Now second part was more what I expected, and we were back to quests and the usual cast + Shino. However the damage of 16 prior episodes was done and I could not get back into it.

Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Season

First part of the finale season is produced by MAPPA who replaced Wit Studio and to be quite honest, I hated it. While the art stayed true to manga, the animation in some parts was GODAWFUL and the TERRIBLE use of CGI made me want to womit.
As for the story, it was hard for me to get into it at first after so many years. My brother helped by making awful jokes and he kept me entertained until I got on the right wave and started enjoying it properly.
Sasha's death was the main point. For me if nothing. My heart was breaking for most of the episode and I was made to suffer the same fate I did while during reading manga.
Compared to manga (by the way) the anime was much clearer. I guess the fact that I had an idea of what was happening helped me a lot, but only now did I finally understand what the story was about and how it changed from the first season.
Given, that Final Season gave a whole different life to SnK, I am not that mad about the studio change.
I regret to inform you that I watched some episode in dub... and it wasn't half bad! I think I'm a degenerate. The dub really killed my taste buds (not the one on the tongue, the ones in head). Or maybe the cast was good...
Now I am excited for another part, but I think it will take me a while to get to it.
Very good season, great anime, loved it. 8/10.
Banger opening by the way.

No Game No Life Zero

I liked the original series just the normal amount. I never thought this was something exceptional, but it was fine. I fell out of it and didn't know there was a "prequel" movie. I dived into it and I was bored.
So incredibly bored the whole time.
The movie looked great, and the ending seemed very important to the overall story. I do regret watching it, because I think I wasted almost two hours of my life, but we're going to give it a rating of 6/10.

Kagami no Kojou (Lonely Castle in the Mirror)

Kagami no Kojou is a story adapted from a novel. From what I gathered, it's one of the worst adaptation ever.
I tried this as a simul-watch with my friend Anzo. This felt like a good choice - a touching story about people trying to find themselves... It was a pity we never got that.
This anime is good, it's decent. But the two hours are confusing, boring, silly, the story is not edited well from the book to a movie - it falls flat, it looses meaning and it's confusing and very predictable.
The ending was cute, but overall, I hated it more than I liked it.
6/10.

Suzume no Tojimari (Suzume)

Masterpiece. I am not going to spoil anything. Go watch it. That's not a suggestion, it's an order. 😂
People compare it to Your Name too. While I would say it's closer than Kagami no Kojou, this is a story from Makoto Shinkai too. It's not a new Your Name. It's a new favorite movie.
10/10

Natsume Yuujinchou (Natsume's Book of Friends)

This is the first season I watched from this series, I have around 7 more to go. While I loved the music and the old art style was charming, I did found the story very very repetitive.
I enjoyed it for the first half, then I was getting bored. Of course, I want to watch more, just to see if something else will come around - because if the story is this long, I do not believe giving ghosts back their names is the only plot.
I didn't enjoy the main cat character too much, but Natsume is voiced by Levi Ackerman's voice actor, so what more did you expect from me? 😂 Ofc I am watching it.
7/10

March just started and I am already swamped. I am hoping to watch at least 10 anime during March, but I might not even make that. In any way, I hope to see you soon in a anime post - but I will definitely post about old movies.
Maybe check that out?
