Cherry Magic!

Cherry Magic! grabbed my attention in anime, manga and now live action. The gays did it again and I have to share the joy this story brings me with all of you! ...again.

Child, you've seen it coming for a while now. We all have. It's Cherry Magic time! Wohoo!
I heard about this movie from a friend of mine, who saw that I posted Kurosawa's handsome anime face on my ig - and replied by saying she only knew about the Live Action.
Obviously, I told her I was going to check it out when the anime stopped airing... but here I am, watching it before the last episode is about to air.

Who would have thought that I would not be able to wait? Me, ofc. So jump in, and watch me have an experience where cringe mixes with the old "fujoshi" me... as we watch two boys (men, sorry) fall in love!

Episode 1 - 12

I ruined this and the anime for myself by mistaking the movie for the real series... I know everything now. God and I was so careful!
Anyway, first episode, so far so good. Not too many cringe-worthy moments that I have with any and every tv series/drama.
The first cringe happened at circa 2nd minute when Adachi's coworker (Urabe) started talking, that man gives me the ick just by existing.
What surprised me was the opening and ending theme, which I enjoyed a lot.

[This man agreed so quickly, he wasted no time.]

I don't know why but I feel like the series are moving faster than the anime. If what I've seen from the movie is true, then I guess I know why by now.
But I am so excited. As I finished some Asian dramas before, I am used to certain things I don't like or seem bad to me. So I am able to enjoy this show...

[He is fighting for his life. I love him.]

I don't know who you are, Machida Keita, but you might be my new Hirose Tomoki.
Rokkaku appeared in the third episode at the karaoke party - and I am SOOOO glad that boy isn't as annoying as in the anime. I wouldn't say I love him, but I can handle him.
Fourth episode was definitely not in the anime - Adachi is asked to play pretend his coworker's (Fujisaki) boyfriend, but I didn't get my jealous scene from Kurosawa!

["The woman was too stunned to speak"]

[It's called being gay, baby.]

[Gay joy™]

But before I could complain more...

My man rolled his eyes so hard, not even the person behind him would see it. Peak acting from Kurosawa's actor. I was laughing so hard, I rewatched this scene four times!

I binged 6 episodes in one sitting, glued to my Notebook. This show is actually good! You see, when you write a good story, nothing can ruin it!
They didn't include the "arguing about who will sleep in what bed" scene!! Which: Nooo! ROBBED!!!

At this point, this is less of a review and more of Kurosawa being jealous. But just look at him - smiling widely, about to have the date of his dreams... when he suddenly spots Tsuge!

Worried boyfriend mode on:

As someone who haven't read the manga yet (and technically didn't finish the anime either) the bus scene during episode 8 was a great surprise and I enjoyed the little poem by Kurosawa. It was so funny!
That boy is in it DEEP.

Adachi is the most awkward supportive friend anyone could wish for... but boy, did it work? Tsuge's smile was worth every penny.
Tsuge's actor is kind of pretty - but his acting is so violent. I don't understand it. 😂
All in all, episode 8 was very important to me.

And episode 9 continued in that same spirit. The two of them fooling around, and smiling like two idiots at work... It was heartwarming!

What was different from anime was Minato and Tsuge's drama. While in the anime I didn't like them too much, I started to care for them during this series. Minato is acting differently and Tsuge's agrressive acting grew on me, I actually think he's bringing the real drama. 😂
Minato is openly gay and his ex forces himself on him, what Tsuge sees - and Minato thinks Tsuge is avoiding him because of his sexual orientation. Rokkaku acted like a man here though, calling Tsuge to talk to him and tell him what he thinks (he didn't have to try to beat the Glasses' asss, but it is what it is.)

A little spoiler ahead: Tsuge and Minato really did sleep together the first chance they got. If there won't be any drama involved with them, I will be very unhappy.

I took a little break between the episodes, keeping the finale for a more relaxed time. But who am I kidding? I am a college student, writing a final thesis and I spoiled it for myself on day one by accidentally choosing the movies instead of the series.
Anyway. I learned two things during the break.

  1. How the heck am I not sick of this series yes? I watched the anime, saw the live action and read the manga...
  2. Each type of media was done differently, so all of them are different. That is how.
Answering my own question, I continued the series, happy. However, I chose episode 12 instead of 11 and spoiled myself another thing - their break-up.
Wait, what??

Yeah... in episode 11, Adachi decides to tell Kurosawa that he has magic. But before that, we're going back to the competition and Kurosawa gives us all some great presentation tips I will be using for sure.
Ah, Kurosawa. I forgot how charming he is. God I want that man badly.

[He's talking about the presentation, you pervert...]

I loved the way he pronounced "CTPT". I have no clue what it means but "šitipiti" was perfect.
Anyway, let's focus on the main problem. That being - the gays did it again. They made me, a young adult woman, cry. Obviously, that is meant as a joke, but a literal one.

When Adachi confessed his magic and Kurosawa accepted it, and asked him if Adachi wanted them to break up... even thought I knew they are going to get married, I had no idea what Adachi was going to say. And when he nodded to Kurosawa's request with tears falling down his face, and Kurosawa sighed so deeply... my own eyes watered.

See, that is the thing with a-drama. I do cringe a lot and laugh at some things that I shouldn't because of cultural differences and me being well... stupid. But situations like these really make me gasp for air.

Episode 12 was the last one and I was kind of worried. How much can you do in 20 minutes to get to the point where movie began? I knew what to expect - them getting back together, even proposing. Maybe the promised sex (did they even kiss? Can't remember...), but mostly a proper apology.

I will miss Fujisaki so much. But I will make sure to watch something else with Sato Ryo, because she is just so adorable.

Also. The pacing for the final episode was really good. They managed to explained everything well and nothing felt out of place or hurried. Big thumbs down.
Tsuge was great. He was really smart and talked to Adachi in a way, that I felt relieved and confident. I need a friend like him.
Thought the way he tried to look macho was too funny.

Ultimately though, he was the non-virgin of them two with a successful relationship. So who can blame him for being overconfident. He earned it.

[That's the bike in question, btw. Nice going, Tsuge...]

[Just an excuse to post her pictures...]

In the end, the proposal was with pens because "Adachi might be too embarrassed", which is different from the manga. But if I recall correctly, drama aired before the scene could happen in the anime, so I am going to shut up about that.
It was pretty adorable, and intimate in a way.

We didn't get even one kiss. The elevator scene where they baited it was disappointing, but nothing I am not used to.
According to someone on Reddit, they are "high profile actors" which to me means nothing. But in the end, it doesn't really matter.

(Wait no, it should matter! Why the hell did we not get a proper kiss in a BL show? And what does hogh profil actor mean?? No one wanted them to do porn! It's a romance drama!!)

The series was pretty good in the end, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Sure, some things could go differently, and some things were "bad", but it was very decent and tastefully done.
One might argue the proposal came to soon, but one does not know how "the homosexuals" operate. A year of dating is like a lifetime. (You can be mad about it, but you know I'm right.)

To sum it up:

  • Story - 8/10
  • Characters - 10/10
  • Music - 10/10
  • Entertainment value - 10/10

For now, that is all. I got into older movies, I have a lot of anime that takes priority for now... and ofc college.
So. One day, I might continue watching this. We still have Special 1 and  2 and  a Movie to watch.

So one day, update might come. But not in close future. 😁 Still, I think this series was really really good and I loved the actors and how different the story was!
