Chainsaw Man [The Good and The Bad]

In this section we'll take a look at the strong and the weak sides of an anime we're covering to help you decide wither to watch it too or not!

Every anime we'll cover will contain not only the standalone series but also OVAs, specials and sequels.
Sometimes it's hard to write a review for every show you watch, a good review that is. But you can always make a list of things you liked and disliked about the show!

Chainsaw Man

Quick summary:

Chainsaw Man stars with a nameless boy that has only himself and his pet dog Pochita. His father died and he must pay off the debt, which leaves him homeless, starving and fighting devils.
We never learn why or how the demons infected the world, but with all the stuff happening - it will be the last of your concerns.
Sad backstories and breathtaking moments included, you will find yourself weeping for characters you barely met and hating those that have been present since the first day.
Chainsaw Man is just slightly overrated, but does deserve the attention it gets because it meets all the criteria of a good action series, giving you chills that aren't coming just from the supernatural, but often something that's supposed to be humane.

👌 Action, action, action and more actions!

I love action anime, despite having seen so little of them. The fact that something is always happening makes you entertained so much, that you won't even realize how far in the story you got in span of one day.
It is very risky, of course. Once you set the bar so high with all your twist and trials and tribulations, it's very hard to keep it high and don't bore your viewers. Chainsaw Man handled it perfectly and kept me on my toes to the very end... and then left me screaming because there is no sequel to it.
I don't have to mention how important animation, music and character design is for this to work. Apart from the godawful CGI (I might be too harsh) MAPPA did what they always do - killed it.
You will be scared to blink, because you never know what you might miss.

👌 Everyone dies... or do they?

This section contains spoilers, please skip it if you want to watch Chainsaw Man!
To give it a little space for those that scroll away, I am going to talk nonsense for just a line or two. We all saw the tags and we all know what awaits us - not only from the summary of the anime, but also from the whole vibe of it. Anime that is so similar to Attack on Titan and Tokyo Ghoul won't let you keep your favorite characters alive.
Just in first episode, our two main characters die. Denji and Pochita are killed by the man they own money to (or well, by the demon that took care of him) and then Pochita merges with Denji, leading to his ultimate death.
It won't take too long for things to get crazy and we witness Makima and her companions die. However, Makima has something interesting going on for her and she survives the attack.
Knowing that the hunters can make a deal with demons, it's no surprise that death will try to take Himeno and Aki.
People die a lot in this anime - whether is someone you knew "personally" or someone you met just five minutes ago.
It's rough man, but it does add to the charm. And then again, you can't say the anime itself didn't warn you!

👌 Many, many endings to enjoy - not literal, musical

Animators have fun sometimes! And in this piece it worked great. Despite not getting any kind of ending to the actual story, the music at the end of each episodes changes and slaps each time.
Just to talk about music itself, we get incredible fighting music (someone called it Breaks), amazing opening and great-quality OST overall.
It's no surprise, MAPPA knows what it's doing.
When it came to ending, who knows what happened, but someone got the blessed idea of switching it up all the time. For those of you who skip openings and endings, you missed on. Go back and try to listen to a few of them. They are incredible.
Even EVE got his time to shine!

👌 Extreme visuals when it comes to background and landscape

Need I say more? Chainsaw Man lacked in CGI and in art style a bit, making it feel almost a bit robotic, but those shoots up there... they really are so well made and made it very enjoyable to watch.
I know I used one background three times, but I really love the way it looks.

👇 CGI, motion blur, flat art

I said it a few times already, I even said it in Anime Wrap-up = the art itself gave me big big troubles. I hated how the CGI didn't blend with the rest of the anime. In Harukana Receive, I didn't mind it as much, because it was just one time in one scene.
But Chainsaw BUILD the action on it - the demons, Denji and some of the other scenes were animated through CGI which isn't bad if well done.
I just couldn't look at it. If you're a fan of CGI-ed scenes, good for you man, ignore me. If you aren't, this will give you a hard time.
Watching some dramatical scenes, it almost felt like playing a game that has motion blur on. I mean... okay, but weird.
I know this is petty of me, but I am taking points of for the art, art style and CGI-ed animation. It just didn't do the anime or the story justice.
