Down the memory lane

Down the memory lane is a limited section. It's an excuse to talk about the shows that I have already finished, that left some kind of impact or stuck to me for good and bad reasons.

To make it clear - this is just an experiment.
I won't go over all the the shows I've seen - and for anime I am watching now when the blog is running, we have Anime Wrap-Up. 😊
For the time being, this is the first and only part!

Today we'll talk about:

The three anime we're going to cover in this episode are very special to me. And I'll tell you why in a moment.

LOVE STAGE!! is a 10 episode long anime from Summer 2014. It's based on a manga with the same name. The plot of Love stage!! is simple. Izumi Sena is the younger son of the Sena family that is famous in the showbiz. It so happens that Izumi gets a role of a girl in a wedding ad. After ten years, a re-shooting happens and the boy that acted in the ad gives a condition - he will only act in the ad if Izumi is there too. Hiding his love for who he believes is a girl from his childhood, Ryouma is in for a big surprise... But can the fact that Izumi is a boy cancel out the deep feelings of the other boy?

LOVE STAGE!!: Chotto ja Nakutte is a OVA special released in Fall 2014 giving us a look at a little "double date" in the park, with Izumi, Ryouma but also my beloved Rei and Shougo.
Love stage was my first anime ever. I remember sleeping in my parent's bedroom, stealing my dad's phone and watching it with the sound turned off because the Japanese squealing and screeching got on my nerves. It was after midnight, my dad was nervous that I was still on my phone but I couldn't put it down. After a few episodes, I realized that I can't watch it without a sound and I jammed to the best opening ever:

This was a big big big giant ride. First time hearing about anime - understand what I was watching and that there is a huge community of people who enjoy this too. I remember wanting to see more but having no idea where to start, how to look for it, or what I am doing...
It's crazy to think that this was around 8 years ago... honestly! 😃 Back then, my friends' ears could fell of, I wouldn't shut up about it...
But to get back on track, Love Stage was really great and I finished the manga only recently and I honestly still love it so much. The art is pretty, the characters remind me of one of my rp (shout out to Lena) - I really couldn't ask for a better start!

After finishing Love Stage, it took me a few months to find my footing again. My planning list grew and grew, and it would seem like Hybrid Child was next on my list. We will talk about that one later. At the same time, in January of 2017 I found Kuroshitsuji an anime that gave me a jump boost into getting serious about it... and started my "otaku" era. (You had it too, I know you did!)
Reading about it, I remember laughing "If mom saw this, she would not let me watch it!" and my mom, upon hearing it, said: "You're right. Turn that off."
But thankfully she wasn't serious and I fell into a rabbit hole called Black Butler.
As a mostly heterosexual anime that people could watch when 16, it was easier to tell people how much I loved it. My friend (at that time my classmate) gave me a shirt with Grell on my birthday, which I loved so much!

There was a meme like this on my shirt.
Back in late 2010' this type of meme was very popular.

And years later I got my first physical copy of Kuroshitsuji manga... that one volume with Agni.... Ohhh no.
Watching 24 episodes of anime was such a huge deal back then, but I was not bored. I fell into Sebastian's trap, I loved Grell a lot and I fount the story very interesting. As more characters appeared, I got more and more into it and when I found out this anime has more than just one series adapted, I was in heaven.
With the slow addition of new character, Agni and Snake became my favorites too!

Kuroshitsuji: Sono Shitsuji, Kougyou is what I remember the least. I know it had some emotional context, with Hamlet and revenge... but all I remember is the seaweed costume.

Kuroshitsuji II introduced new characters - and totally shifted the whole mood. From what I heard, it wasn't adapting the manga in the best way, but I was too shocked by what was happening to care.
I hated Alois, I hated Claude and I felt incredibly sad for Hannah. That little sh*t Alois was my nightmare and I had troubles finishing this - all I wanted was a revenge and some closure, that Alois will get eaten alive.
The realization that nor Claure or Sebastian actually care about their young lords hurt me a bit. As a kid-becoming-a-teen I was naïve and I though in the end, something humane will awake in them (completely ignoring the fact that they are demons).

Kuroshitsuji II OVA helped me get over it. Cute and funny little stories with all our favorite characters that were finally having fun instead of depression.
The Making of Kuroshitsuji II was incredibly fun, showing us the character as if they were real actors shooting the scenes and having a different personality. Incredible! It was like watching bloopers! The Tale of William the Shinigami was very emotional and I remember rewatching it at least 5 times. It was very special to me and I liked it a lot. I might rewatch it today for the old time's sake... And I have this feeling that I remember The Spider's Intention as well, but that only left the memory without really remembering what it was.

Kuroshitsuji: Book of Circus and Kuroshitsuji: Book of Murder threw me back into the big sad, with it's heavy themes. Thinking about it, the most interesting about Book of Murder was the character of Queen. I didn't get it at the time and I should probably give it a rewatch... Book of Circus on the other hand was incredible and all the new characters were so incredibly sad. All those backstories... Very emotional and very interesting! Well made series!  The last bit I'm going to talk adress is the movie called Kuroshitsuji: Book of the Atlantic which I waited for for 2 years until I finally found it and was able to watch it. I was feeling desperate at times, thinking I will never ever have the chance to watch it. The story seemed hella interesting and besides, I loved Kuroshitsuji! How could I miss that??
Again, I rewatched this movie at least two times, each day loving it more and more. I think as a story it works really really well and it stays true to the historical political-conspiracy feel to it. Good job once again, A-1 Pictures!
If it wasn't clear for my rant, please, watch the Kuroshitsuji series!

And the sooner the better because... Can you believe Kuroshitsuji: Kishuku Gakkou-hen is coming out this year?? From what I've seen (I am not a manga reader) it shoudl follow the manga and animate some of the special twists that has been shown in manga a LONG time ago. Instead of A-1 Pictures, CloverWorks is making this series.
CloverWork is famous for SPY x FAMILY, Bocchi the Rock!, Horimiya... but also infamous for Wonder Egg Priority and Yakusoku no Neverland...
What do you think? Is the upcoming series in good hands or not? Please, let me know in the comments! (You can use Disqus now!)

Last anime we will talk about today is Anne Happy♪ which was also one of the first ones I remember watching. Anne Happy was my first CGDCT anime, and I think it was a great start.
Lots of cute girls, absolutely weird story, incredibly cute art and ridiculous backstories. Does that not sound like a dream?
The main point is that our girls are attending the Tennogofune Academy, which is essentially a school for girls with bad luck. An is incredibly clumsy, Ruri's love is very very unlucky, Botan gets hurt easily, animals keep getting in Ren's way and Hibiki has no sense of direction.
The poor girls are faces with a lot of school-work and subjects that are trying to help them get over this issue, while they are getting to know each other a better, becoming really really good friends.
I enjoyed Anne Happy, I enjoy the music, the voice acting and I am a bit sad that a second season is probably not going to come out ever.
Again, if you are a fan of Cute Girls Doing Cute Things, it is a crime to skip this one!!

And wouldn't you know it, just like that the first part of Down the memory lane is over. Thank you for joining me and I hope you had fun reading!
Which anime did you like the most, if you have seen any of them? 😄

Bonus:
Listen to this, it's hilarious.
